Unsigned Schreiner Necklace Earrngs Aqua Vitrail Stones
Directory: Estate Jewelry: Costume: Designer: Pre 1970: Item # 725585
Vintage bib necklace and matching clip earrings with exceptional and very large inverted unfoiled openbacked glass stones in an intense blue green with hints of purple. Circa 1960. An unsigned Schreiner piece. Many Schreiner pieces were made for designers such as Christian Dior, Norman Norell, Pauline Trigere, and others, and were unsigned because they were made to be shown or sold as accessories to the designer's couture clothing collection. Signed Schreiner pieces were made to be sold individually in stores. The inverted large aqua stones, the chain with alternating set rhinestones and open links, and the overall design and use of color are all key Schreiner characteristics.
The metal is goldtone. The large aqua stones are set in heavy cast sculpted frames surmounted by engraved metal leaf form accents. Also with large and small round chartreuse stones, and large round color changing vitrail stones in purple/blue/pink with a saphiret-like color changing quality. With a hook clasp.
The earrings are 1 1/2 inches long. The necklace has a wearable length of 16 1/4 inches and drops 2 1/8 inches in the center. Excellent condition. One link at the upper right side (as viewed) joining the chain to the lower part of the necklace is "sticky" and does not slide as the other links do. There is no sign of a repair and it lies perfectly smoothly on a human neck. I mention this strictly for accuracy. Photos enlarged to show detail.
